Adaptation planning

Promotion of integrated hazards assessment research:
The COVID-19 outbreak brings various changes in socioeconomic activities all over the world. Since Japan is predicted to see natural disasters more frequently due to climate change, it will be also important to make adaptation plans to natural disasters taking account of these changes. Under the Japan’s climate model development program (TOUGOU), Japanese government promotes researches on how natural disasters will change over the next 100 years quantifying the probability of climate change impact on typhoons and flooding etc. and assessing the impact of climate change with the worst case scenarios. These research studies are expected to contribute to better adaptations in Japan after the COVID-19 crisis.
